What Steel Thickness Actually Determines
Pry resistance
Thicker steel directly resists prying. A pry bar inserted at a safe door edge needs to deform the steel to create a gap. 1mm steel requires significantly more force than 0.6–0.8mm, and 2mm steel is harder still. For a burglar using hand tools and working under time pressure, the jump from 0.7mm to 1mm matters more than 1mm to 2mm.
Drill resistance
